The Hawkesbury Valley is one of the oldest Australian settlements and first explored by Governor Phillip in 1789. The Hawkesbury racing pioneers fashioned a race course from 200 acres of virgin bush land in 1865 which led to the first race meeting being conducted on the course in 1871.
