The Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel has undergone significant renovations, marking a new chapter in its history. Located on the picturesque Victoria Quays, this four-star hotel offers modern amenities and a fresh design aimed at providing an enhanced experience for tourists and travelers alike.
With a total of 128 rooms, the hotel now boasts seven different types of accommodations, including family rooms to cater to the diverse needs of travelers. Northland Properties, the Canadian parent company of Sandman Hotel Group, took ownership in June 2022 and began renovations the following November. The project, which will fully complete in summer 2026, is designed to appeal to both leisure and business guests, with upgraded meeting and event spaces.
The hotel’s restaurant, now relocated to the ground level, takes advantage of the stunning Grade II listed arches beneath the building. These historic arches, which date back to 1855, have been meticulously restored, keeping the original stone and brickwork intact. The Tavern on The Quays, a modern yet traditionally British pub, opened its doors in September. It offers a relaxing atmosphere for both hotel guests and the public, combining steampunk vibes with a classic pub experience. With a 5,000 square foot space, the venue offers seating for 90 diners, a large bar area, and private dining options for up to 40 guests. A 200-capacity ballroom is also in the works, catering to weddings and large events, with plans for an outdoor patio area to overlook the water.
The hotel’s leisure facilities have been upgraded and rebranded under the name Signature Spa & Leisure. The fitness suite has undergone a complete refurbishment, expanding its space and adding state-of-the-art equipment for resistance, cardiovascular, and functional training. Further enhancements to the spa area, including the 20-meter heated swimming pool, changing rooms, sauna, and steam rooms, are expected to be completed by 2026. Additionally, the introduction of treatment rooms will elevate the spa offerings.
To accommodate growing demand, the hotel will expand further in 2026 with the addition of 32 new rooms. This expansion will bring the total room count to 160, including upgraded suites with kitchenettes and balconies. The hotel’s reception area is also set to undergo a remodel as part of the ongoing improvements.
The property’s history dates back to the 1990s when it first opened as part of the Stakis Hotels group. Over the years, it has seen multiple changes in ownership, becoming the Sheffield Hilton before being taken over by Best Western Plus under Legacy Hotels in 2020. The latest transformation by Sandman Hotel Group represents a modern rebranding of a building with deep historical roots.
